Scheduled
Tryouts for the Bantam AAA full season traveling teams will
be held at the Carnarvon Park east diamond on September 23, 30 and
October 7. Viper tryouts will take place from 2 – 4 and Bears tryouts
will go from 4 – 6. Please attend the first day of tryouts ½ hour early to
get registered and warm up. E-mail any questions to Todd Pribilsky at

2007 Bantam AAA Bears and Vipers Coaches
Needed
With the conclusion of the 2006 regular season, GVMBA is
accepting applications to manage/coach the Bantam AAA baseball teams
(Bears and Vipers). Please email your resumes or letter of interest to Art
Celuszak (art-celuszak@shaw.ca)
or Todd Pribilsky (pribilsky5@shaw.ca).
We would like to have these positions fielded prior to the end of
September, as tryouts will be held at Carnarvon Park on Saturdays,
September 23, 30 and October 7. During January and February, indoor
training will be held Sunday afternoons in the Oak Bay Recreation field
house. The teams will take their practices outside in mid March and the
new season will begin in April 2007. If you have any questions, please

Pee Wee AAA Wildcats Bring Home Silver Medal
From National Championships
The Pee Wee AAA Wildcats have won the Silver Medal at the
2006 AAA Pee Wee National Championships held in Victoria over the August
24-27th weekend. After going 4-1 in round robin play, the Wildcats
finished second in their pool and met Alberta in the semi-final, thumping
them 16-1 to advance to the final, where they met Quebec, who had beat
Ontario 15-5 in the other semi-final. The Championship game was a close
plaed affair until Quebec took advantage of some Victoria miscues to pull
ahead and win the Gold Medal 7-2. For a summary of all tournament games,

Midget Victoria Mariners Are National Silver
Medalists in Summerside, PEI
The Victoria Mariners (representing British Columbia)
defeated Saskatchewan 2-0 Sunday morning to advance to the Championship
game of the National Midget Championship against Ontario. In that game,
Victoria stormed out to a 3-0 lead, but gave up 4 runs in the last 2
innings to see Ontario escape with a 4-3 win and capture the gold.

Midget AAA Capitals Take Bronze Medal at
Western Canadians
The Victoria Capitals Midget AAA squad defeated Regina
13-3 on Sunday to capture the Bronze Medal at the 2006 Midget Western
Canadians held in Regina, Saskatchewan over the August 24-27th weekend.
The Capitals finished 2-2 in round robin play with wins over Saskatchewan
(5-4) and Manitoba (11-4), while losses came to Alberta (5-0) and Regina
(7-3).

Junior Mavericks Lose to Ontario and Finish
Out of Medal Rounds
At the 2006 Junior Nationals in Guelph, Ontario,
the Victoria Mavericks lost 7-0 to Ontario to finish with a 2 and 2 record
and 3rd in their pool. They will now play Alberta in a 3rd place
consolation game.

Victoria Junior Mavericks Capture Provincial
Title
The Victoria Junior Mavericks defeated Prince George
5-0 to capture the 2006 B.C. Junior Baseball League Provincial
Championship at Lambrick Park in Victoria on the August 11-13 weekend.
The Mavericks had a 5-1 record at the tournament and defeated Burnaby 2-1
in a tension packed semi-final prior to the championship game against
Prince George. Matt Campbell earned the win in the championship game,
throwing a one-hitter. The Mavericks finished the season with a 16-5-1
record and will now represent British Columbia at the National Junior
Championship which will be held in Guelph, Ontario on the August 24-28
weekend.
Capitals Capture Midget AAA Provincial Crown
On Aug 6th the Victoria Capitals captured the 2006 Midget
AAA Championship by defeating the Chilliwack Cougars 10-0 in 5 innings.
The Capitals lost their first Round Robin game to the same Chilliwack team
8-0. From then on every game was a must win to Qualify for the BC Playoff
Finals. The Caps trounced Ridge Meadows 11-1 and then Vancouver Mounties
15-2 to finish 2-1 in Pool B. Victoria continued its offensive onslaught
with 12-6 Semi-Final victory over Newton Indians, which setup the rubber
match with Chilliwack. For more details

Victoria Mosquito Squads Capture Silver Medals
at Provincials
The Victoria Venom AAA Tier 1 and Victoria
Rebels A teams have both won silver medals at their respective
Mosquito Provincial tournaments over the August Long Weekend. The
Tier 1 Venom captured 2nd in their pool with a 3-1 record and then
won a close semi-final defeating Ladner 3-2, before losing an equally
close championship game to Cloverdale 2-1. The Rebels went
undefeated in their pool, thumped Ladysmith in the semi-finals and then
lost to Cloverdale 8-2 in their final. For further details please

Victoria Teams Advance to Provincials - Two
Island Champions Crowned
A number of Greater Victoria teams will be
heading to the Provincial Championships after a successful Island Zone
weekend on July 28-30. The Mosquito A Rebels and the Pee
Wee A Tigers won their zones and will advance as 2006 Vancouver Island
Champions. The Mosquito AAA Tier 2 Bandits, Pee Wee A
Cougars and Bantam A Bulls each placed second in their zones to
capture the second Island berths that were available at those levels.
Other Provincial slots already confirmed include the Mosquito AAA Tier
1 Venom and the Bantam AAA Vipers. For more information on our

The 2006 Summer All-Star season is underway and
all of GVMBA's teams are ready to make runs at their various Provincial

The 2006 Spring season concluded in late June with a number

Victoria Mariner's Kyle Orr Selected by Los
Angeles Dodgers in MLB Entry Draft
Victoria Mariner's player, Kyle Orr was drafted by the Los
Angeles Dodgers in the 4th round (113th overall) of the MLB First Year
Player draft. Orr is the top Canadian selected in the 2006 draft. Kyle, a
member of Canada's Junior National Team, has signed a letter of intent
with the University of Kentucky and now must decide whether to continue
his schooling or begin his professional baseball career.

Sidney & North Saanich and Triangle Little
Leagues Make Switch to BC Minor
GVMBA is pleased to welcome the Sidney &
North Saanich and Triangle Little League Associations to BC Minor
Baseball. This increases the number of parks in the GVMBA
program to 10 and will make for a great season of inter-park play at
all levels in the 2006 season and beyond.
