2011 All-Stars Enjoy Early Season Tournament Success

The Mosquito AAA Eagles and the Bantam AA Stingers started their seasons off on the right foot as both came home with Gold Medals from tournaments held over the July 1st weekend.

The Mosquito AAA Eagles travelled to Pitt Meadows to play in the Rumble at the Ridge (Jack Short) tournament. After a very shaky start, losing to Ladner 11-8 on Friday evening, the Eagles bounced back with a vengeance. On Saturday morning they mercied Coquitlam 16-0 and then mercied the hosts Ridge Meadows 17-6. In the semi-finals on Sunday morning, the Eagles beat Ridge Meadows again 14-6. This set up a final with Ladner and in a back and forth game, played very well by both teams, the Eagles prevailed 8-7 and were crowned the champions.

The Bantam AA Stingers traveled to the Cloverdale to play in the Boulanger Bantam AA Tournament and went 5-0 against some of the top teams in the Province to claim the title.  The Stingers defeated Aldergrove (4-3), White Rock (9-5), and Vancouver (14-2) in round robin play and then defeated Abbotsford 1-0 in the semi-final. That set them up against host Cloverdale in the final where the Stingers prevailed 10-5.  Notable performances for the Stingers included Jacob Lapinski's two home runs against Vancouver and Jacob Barnard's six shutout innings in the semifinal against Abbotsford. Karsten Waters had four saves.
