Eagles Take Third at Mosquito Tier I Provincials
The Victoria Eagles Mosquito AAA Tier I team travelled to Richmond for the Provincials this last weekend. Action began on Friday afternoon with a lopsided loss to rivals Abbotsford. This put the Eagles in a position of having to win their last three games in the round robin to make it to the playoffs. On Friday evening the Eagles played Rutland and won 9-8 with a walk-off double in the bottom of the 6th. On Saturday morning, the Eagles played host Richmond and prevailed 9-5. This set up a game against Ridge Meadows–the winner would go on to the semi-finals against Chilliwack. In a hard fought game on Saturday afternoon, featuring some great pitching, the Eagles won 8-5. The GVBA Pee Wee Tigers got off to a great start to the summer tournament season by winning the Noel Rehaume Memorial Pee Wee ‘A’ Tournament in Pitt Meadows on Sunday July 10th. The Tigers came back from a 4-run deficit to beat Prince George 8-7 in the Friday night opener, winning in the bottom of the 7th. On Saturday morning they played small ball and beat Maple Ridge 9-2 with only 4 hits. Having secured home dugout in the semi-final, the afternoon game with Burnaby was meaningless. The Tigers rested arms and Burnaby prevailed 10-8. Sunday morning Victoria dispatched Maple Ridge 9-6 in the semi and then met Burnaby again in the final. Victoria ace Harrison Hurford threw a 1-run 60-pitch complete game gem and the Tigers mercied the Braves 12-1 in 5. Way to go Tigers!

Stingers Grab Silver at Bantam AA Provincials!
After dropping their first game of the round robin to rival Cloverdale 9-4, the Victoria Stingers needed to win their final three games in order to make Championship Sunday. The first opponent in their way was 2009 and 2010 semi-finalist Prince George, and the Stingers came out strong, beating the Knights 15-4. Next up was tournament favourite Vancouver, who was already 3-0 at the time. Having already clinched a playoff spot, Vancouver decided to save their top pitching and the Stingers demolished them 10-1. Victoria's final round robin test was against a tough Rutland team, who gave the Stingers all they could handle in a 6-4 Victoria win. Victoria's 3-1 record gave them first place in their pool and a semi-final date with Abbotsford. Jacob Lapinski drew the start in the semi-final for the Stingers, overcoming a first inning solo home run to throw a complete game (only 71 pitches) in a 4-1 Victoria win. Lapinski also hit a home run of his own in the winning effort. Victoria's semi-final win set up a date with the extremely talented Vancouver Canadians. After taking a mid-game 3-1 lead, Victoria was unable to stop the Vancouver bats en route to a very tough 9-4 loss. The Victoria coaching staff is very proud of the efforts put forth by these twelve boys. They would like to wish the seven graduating players the best of luck next year in junior premier, and they look forward to working with the returning players on winning it all next season.

Sr. Bantam Eagles Take Bantam AAA Provincial Championship!
The Victoria Eagles Bantam AAA Senior squad defeated the Vancouver Mounties 8-5 Sunday afternoon to claim the 2011 Bantam AAA Provincial Championship at Carnarvon Park. The win was sweet revenge over the Mounties who defeated the Eagles earlier in the tournament 11-8 in a controversial, protest delayed game. The Eagles began the tournament in fine fashion with wins over Burnaby (9-0) and Tri-City (13-3) before the loss to Vancouver. They then had a dramatic come from behind win over Abbotsford (4-3) to put themselves into the semi-finals. In the semi against Cloverdale, Kurt Horne pitched the game of his young career, striking out 15 and giving the Eagles a 7-1 win. In the final against Vancouver, the Eagles got an early 3-1 lead, only to see Vancouver rally for a 4-3 lead. That set the stage for some dramatics, as a dramatic 2 run home run by Sam Stevenson put the Eagles back in front. The Eagles would add 3 more runs on the strength of a 2 RBI single by Mitch Bryan and would then shut the Mounties down in the top of the 7th to secure the win. The Eagles will now travel to Vaughan, Ontario to compete in the 2011 Bantam AAA Nationals.
