Pee Wee AAA Management Team Named!
Pee Wee AAA National Championship Here This Summer!
The 2006 Pee Wee AAA National Baseball Championship is coming to
Carnarvon and Lambrick Parks this summer.
This will be the first time that Baseball Canada will be staging a youth
national championship on Vancouver Island. The four-day tournament is the
official Canadian championship for 11- and 12-year-old ball players (as of
December 31, 2005), with the AAA level being the highest competitive category in
this age group.
More youngsters play in Baseball Canada's programs in BC and across Canada than
in any other youth baseball organization. Baseball Canada is the official
governing body for baseball in Canada.
Eleven teams will be competing in the Pee Wee tournament, August 24-27, that
will be held at Carnarvon Park in Oak Bay and Lambrick Park in Saanich. The
national championship is one of the official events of Oak Bay's and Saanich's
2006 centennial celebrations.
Championship teams from all of Canada's 10 provinces will be competing in the
tournament with the eleventh team representing the host district, Victoria.
All players who are registered in Pee Wee baseball for the 2006 spring season
are eligible to tryout for Team Victoria. Players are also encouraged to
participate in a "Pee Wee Top Prospects" program through their local park. The
final tryouts for Team Victoria will held in late May/early June. Details will
be posted at a later date.
There will be plenty of time for young hopefuls to show their
stuff during the spring Pee Wee season.
Registration for all age divisions being offered throughout the district in the
Greater Victoria Minor Baseball Association's 2006 season will take place
January 29 and February 4. Check for any additional dates with your local park.

Background Information and Original Press Release
Victoria, B.C. – Ray Carter, President of Baseball
Canada, announced on November 6, 2004 that Victoria has been awarded the 2006
Baseball Canada Pee Wee AAA Championship. This is the first time that a
Vancouver Island community has won the right to host a Baseball Canada National
Championship.
“We believe that Victoria has the leadership team, location &
facilities and community support to do a top-notch job in hosting this
prestigious tournament”, said Carter. “The Pee Wee AAA Nationals are seen by
many as the most exciting of our national youth championships. The caliber of
baseball is excellent and is played with lots of enthusiasm and skill by
terrific young athletes”.
The Pee Wee AAA Championship during the last week of August in
2006 will be an 11-team tournament with each province sending its provincial
champion to compete for the national title, along with the host Team Victoria.
The majority of the games will be played at
Carnarvon Park in Oak Bay. Some
games will also be played under-the-lights at
Lambrick Park.
"Victoria will stage a very special national championship",
says Greater Victoria Baseball President Art Celuszak. “Our baseball community
and our many supporters will create a feeling of energy and excitement at the
park from the opening pitch to the final out. Every step will be taken to ensure
that players, coaches, umpires and officials are welcomed as guests in our
community and get a strong sense they are at a special event. Hosting this
national event will allow us to show-case Pee Wee baseball and show-off Greater
Victoria to our many visitors from across the country”.
The National Pee Wee AAA Championship will also be highlighted
as an important part of Oak Bay’s centennial celebration. Throughout 2006 Oak
Bay will be celebrating through a variety of artistic, cultural, sporting and
other events.
Pee Wee Baseball is for players who are under 13 years of age
on December 31 prior to the baseball season. The enrolment in Pee Wee baseball
in Canada and BC is the highest of any brand for players in this age group. As
an alternative to the US-administered Little League program, Baseball Canada’s
Pee Wee baseball is now played in over 40 communities in BC.
All players who are born in 1993 or 1994 and who are
registered in BC Minor Baseball in 2005 & 2006 will be eligible to try out for
Team Victoria 2006.
