Eagles GM Appointed Scout for MLB Minnesota Twins

The Victoria Eagles Baseball Club is pleased to announce that its General Manager, Gautam Srivastava, has joined the MLB Minnesota Twins scouting organization.   Srivastava, who has been coaching with the Eagles since their entry into the BC Premier League in 2010, is also the Manager of Baseball BC's High Performance Program and for the last two years he has managed the BC Selects, the 17U team that represents British Columbia at the prestigious Canada Cup tournament sponsored by Baseball Canada every August.Srivastava will work directly under the regional scout for the Minnesota Twins, Mark Wilson, whose territory includes Canada. Wilson was the Twins scout responsible for the Twins' selection of Joe Mauer as their first overall pick in the 2001 MLB draft.

Srivastava's responsibilities include the tracking of ball players in British Columbia, a task that will be facilitated by his various roles with the Victoria Eagles, the BC Premier League, Baseball BC and the BC Selects team. He will monitor players who have already been identified as prospects by the Twins and will also recommend ball players in Victoria, Vancouver Island and British Columbia that deserve a closer look.

General Manager Srivastava views his appointment as a recognition by the Twins that there may be other Justin Morneau's waiting to be discovered. "The BC Premier League has graduated numerous big name players into the rank of Major League Baseball. The Minnesota Twins are convinced that having one of their scouts based in British Columbia gives them a leg up in identifying our local talent."

Martin Winstanley, Chair of the Victoria Eagles Baseball program, sees Srivastava's appointment as a "tremendous asset for local ball players. We are proud to have him as a member of the Eagles coaching staff."

The GVBA Victoria Eagles Baseball Club runs five high performance baseball teams – The Bantam AAA Red Eagles, the Bantam AAA Black Eagles, the Midget AAA Selects, the Junior Premier Eagles and the Premier Eagles. For more information call Martin Winstanley at 250-891-0000.
