Layritz’s Mary Harding is BC Minor Baseball’s Female Athlete of the Year

GVBA would like to extend congratulations to Layritz's Mary Harding who was presented with BC Minor Baseball Association’s “Female Athlete of the Year” award by Val Greenwood, Secretary, at the BCMBA Banquet in Burnaby, BC on November 19, 2011.

Mary, 14, pitched for Baseball BC’s U16 Bantam Girls team in the Lower Mainland’s Bantam A All Star league this summer. She pitched for Layritz 1 in Bantam A last spring, and at the same time played Pee Wee B Fastball as catcher for Strawberry Vale Swarm, winning three tournaments and a silver medal at Provincials in Richmond this July. Mary also played catcher and centrefield for Layritz Little League’s Junior Softball team that won the Canadian Little League Junior Softball Championship in Windsor, ON in August, batting .469. As a member of Team Canada, she played in the Little League Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland, WA, where they were the first team from Canada to win a game in seven years, defeating EMEA from Utrecht, NL. Combined, Mary played 100 ballgames from April to August in 2011.

For Baseball BC, Mary pitched for the host Team Richmond at the Canadian U16 Bantam Girls Baseball National Championships in August 2010 (0.00 ERA); and for Team BC’s U14 Pee Wee Girls team in 2009, winning a silver medal at the Canadian Championships hosted in Newton, BC.

Congratulations on such a great honour!
