Pee Wee AAA Black Eagles Win Silver!

Richmond, BC (ISN) – The Victoria Black Eagles Pee Wee AAA baseball team finished second in the province last Sunday, bringing home a well-earned silver medal following 5-1 loss in the final to the top-seeded Cloverdale Spurs.

The Black Eagles, managed by Keith Davidoff, with coaches Scott Hooper and Dave Swinton, are a summer all-star team composed of 12 and 13-year-old boys from Saanich, the Peninsula and the West Shore, representing the Greater Victoria Baseball Association (GVBA).

After beginning pool play rather ominously, with a 10-0 loss to the Cloverdale Spurs, the Black Eagles responded with wins over Coquitlam-Moody (4-2) and host Richmond (4-0) to finish 2-1 in round robin play, good enough for second in the pool.  That put them up against the Abbotsford Angels in semi-finals Sunday morning and they cam out strong, going up 5-0 in the first inning. The Victoria squad managed to hold on to the lead throughout, winning 9-6 to head to the finals. In the rematch with the Spurs, who went undefeated through the tournament, the Black Eagles simply could not generate any offence and lost by the 5-1 score.

The other Victoria team in the tournament, the AAA Red Eagles finished 1-2 in round robin play, with a win over Nanaimo and losses to Vancouver and Abbotsford, finishing out of medal contention.

The Silver medal for the Black Eagles caps off one of the most successful summer all-star seasons for GVBA in recent memory, as it was the sixth medal won this season at BC Minor Provincials, including a Gold by the Pee Wee A Wildcats, Silver from the Pee Wee AAA Black Eagles, Pee Wee A Tigers, Mosquito AAA Black Eagles, and Bantam AA Stingers and a Bronze from the Mosquito A Red Eagles. GVBA's Midget AAA Selects team were also crowned BC Minor Midget AAA League Champions earlier in the summer.
