Quebec (1-0) Starts Off On Right Foot By
Pummeling Saskatchewan (0-1)
Team Quebec wasted no time in dispensing of any opening game jitters by
scoring 14 runs in the first two innings and thrashing Team Saskatchewan in
the opening game of the Pee Wee Nationals. In the breakout second inning,
Quebec sent 15 men to the plate, scoring 11 runs on 7 hits and putting the
game out of reach early. Saskatchewan mustered a bit of a rally in the 3rd,
scoring three runs, but it was well short of enough, as the game ended after
5 innings due to the mercy-rule. For Quebec Jeff Scott, Kevin Bergeron and
Hamza Naim all had 2 hit games. For Saskatchewan, the lone bright light was
Matthew Gibney who had the only 2 hits for Saskatchewan in the game.

runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning en route to an eventual 9-5 win over

along the way. He also performed well at the plate, knocking in 3 runs
and earning himself the Game MVP award for Ontario. For BC, Game MVP

An RBI double by PEI's Travis Thibedeau in the top of the 7th
inning capped a bit of a comeback and was the margin in a 5-4 victory in this exciting see-saw battle
between two Maritime squads. Trailing 4-2 after 4, PEI scored 2 in the 5th
to tie it up before getting the lead run in the 7th. In the bottom of
the 7th, New Brunswick made it exciting by getting runners on first and
second before a ground out to short ended the game. For PEI, the Game
MVP went to Thibideau who, in addition to getting the game winning
RBI, also got the win in relief. For New Brunswick, MVP went to Dylan Jones,
who had 2 of New Brunswick's 4 hits.

Team Alberta used a 3 run 1st and a bat-around 5 run 3rd
inning to take away a 4-3 Nova Scotia lead, eventually winning 12-6.
Alberta jumped out of the gates to a 3-0 lead thanks to a 3 run blast off

3 runs of their own in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of a few
Alberta defensive miscues. In the 3rd, Alberta's 5 runs came courtesy of 5
hits, including a double by Bennett Csorba. Another run in the 4th and
3 more in the 6th sealed the deal for Alberta, despite Nova Scotia scoring a
pair of their own in the bottom of the 6th. On the mound, Alberta's Tyler

Quebec (2-0) Stays Undefeated With
Solid Win Over Manitoba (0-2)
Team Quebec rode the 2 hit, 12 strikeout pitching of their trio of Mathieu
Ouimet, Louis-Karl Pednault and Hamza Naim, to an 8-1 win over Manitoba to
go 2-0 and keep pace with undefeated Victoria in their pool. Quebec
pounded out 12 hits, including a homerun by Philippe Banville and a 3 hit
performance by Ouimet. The game was relatively close played, but Quebec
scored runs in each of the first 5 innings to gradually pull away and secure
the win. For Manitoba, Joel Edmundson started them off on the right
track with a solo home run in the first inning, but unfortunately that was
all the offence they could produce against the strong Quebec pitchers.

Victoria (2-0) Keeps on Rolling With
Big Win Over Saskatchewan (0-2)
The host team Victoria bats picked up right where they left off in the day's
earlier game against Manitoba, this time pounding out seven hits, including
2 more home runs, in a 12-2 rout of Saskatchewan. The turning point in
this one came in the top of the 4th when Victoria broke open a close 2-1
game with a 10 run inning that featured back-to-back home runs by Luke
Hawkins (a 3 run blast over the centre field fence) and Matt Ney (solo).
Hawkins also was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats and struggled out of
an early first inning jam (bases loaded 1 out) to allow 2 runs and NO hits
over his 4 innings of work (with 6K's). Nick Pivetta closed out the deal,
striking out 5 in his 2 innings of work. For Saskatchewan, starting pitcher
Justin Nychuk earned their game MVP award by keeping the hot Victoria bats
at bay over the first three innings. Luke Hawkins earned Victoria's Game

Dramatic Comeback Over PEI (1-1) Keeps
Victoria (3-0) Undefeated
Trailing 5-1 after 4 innings, the Victoria Wildcats scored 3 runs in the top
of the 5th and 2 runs in the top of the 7th to sneak the victory away from a
tough PEI squad. The red hot Victoria bats were silenced early in this
game by the crafty, off-speed pitching of PEI's Stephen Holland (Game MVP),
who allowed just 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 4. For Victoria, Colton
Lindsay got the start, and although striking out 8, found his team behind
after a tough 4th inning where PEI scored 4 runs. Nick Pivetta came in
to relive Lindsay and shut PEI down the rest of the way to earn the win and
the Game MVP for Victoria. At the plate for Victoria, Luke Hawkins was
3 for 3, including a big single in the 7th inning to start the winning
rally. Hawkins then scored on a single by Matt Ney, who also came in to
score the winning run on a single by Jackson McCuaig. For PEI, they

Team Quebec continued their winning ways on Friday with

shortstop Philippe Banville that easily cleared the concession tents that
are set up a good 30 or 40 feet beyond the left field fence. Hamza
Naim got the start for Quebec and struggled early with his control but was
picked up by Kevin Bergeron who pitched 3 strong innings of relief, allowing
1 run and getting the win. At the plate, Marc-Andre Payette joined
Banville with a muti-hit game including a single and double. For PEI, Cody

keep pace with Quebec atop Pool A in their second late inning comeback of

the 3rd, courtesy of hits by Jesse Hodges, Luke Hawkins, Matt Ney (double),
Justin Meurs and Ty Russell. New Brunswick was not to be deterred however
and answered with 3 of their own in the bottom of the inning, taking
advantage of a Victoria error and a wild pitch. That was enough to chase
starter Jackson McCuaig in favour of Hudson Brown, who was excellent in
relief, shutting down the New Brunswick batters the rest of the way and
registering 10 strikeouts in the process. At the plate for the
Wildcats, Luke Hawkins was 4 for 4 (all singles), while Jesse Hodges and
Matt Ney were 3 for 4 and scored a pair of runs each. For New Brunswick.

Battle of Pool A Unbeaten Teams Goes

of which came in to score. Victoria answered with 2 in the bottom of the
inning, but that would be all they would get, as the Quebec pitching shut
them down the rest of the way. Quebec also added 3 more insurance runs in

Knowing that a win would secure 1st place in Pool B, Alberta came out of the
gates swinging to
score 6 runs in the top of the first, thanks in part to 4 hits including a 2
RBI single by Curtis Mazurkewich. Alberta added another in the 2nd and then
4 more in the 3rd as Mazurkewich responded again, this time crushing a Grand
Slam home run to give Alberta an 11-0 lead. Then it was Ontario's turn to
provide some offence as they scored 4 of their own in the bottom of the 4th,
and another 3 in the bottom of the 5th, thanks to home runs off the bats of
Aaron Palmer and Adam Godo (a 2 run shot). Ontario kept battling and added
another 2 in the bottom of the 7th, thanks to another 2 run dinger off the
bat of Godo, however it was too little too late, as Alberta closer Markus
Fergusson struck out the next 2 batters to clinch the win and first place in
Pool B for Alberta. Taylor Weibe was the winning pitcher for Alberta and was
awarded the Game MVP. Joshua Leehim was awarded the Game MVP for Ontario for
2 strong innings of relief work. Alberta now moves on to play Victoria in
the semi-finals at 11:30 on Sunday. With the Alberta win, Nova Scotia
finishes 3rd in Pool B and will face PEI Sunday at 2:30 pm in the 3rd place
game. British Columbia finishes 4th and will meet New Brunswick in the 4th
place game.

Explodes for 12 In First Inning to Power Their Way to the Final Over
Ontario
After giving up 2 runs in the top of the first to
Ontario, Quebec responded by exploding for 12 runs in the bottom of the
first, on the strength of 3 home runs, and left 4 Ontario pitchers in the
dust along the way. Quebec's first runs came off a 3 run homer by Mathieu
Vertefeuille (Game MVP), which was followed shortly thereafter by a 2 run
blast by Mathieu Marcoux and the a solo shot by Hamza Naim. As if the 12 run
first were not enough, Quebec added 3 more in the 2nd thanks in part to a 2
run home run by leadoff hitter Marc-Andre Payette. On the mound,
Philippe Banville got the start and was credited with the win. For Ontario,
Adam Godo had a single and a double, while Michael Landsdowne, Michael
Spezza, Daniel Poutsoungas, Aaron Palmer and Brad Drury contributed the
remainder of Ontario's 7 hits. Daniel Poutsoungas was named Game MVP. Quebec
will now go on to face Victoria in what should be an exciting final. Ontario
